Skyler was to be confirmed on Pentecost Sunday in May at his church. He had learned the Ten Commandments as part of his catechism training. The first commandment of, "You shall not have any other gods," and third to, "Remember the sabbath day to keep it holy," were spoken of often by the pastor. On the big day of his Confirmation, Skyler's baseball team had a tournament game scheduled during the same time as the confirmation party in the fellowship hall to welcome all confirmands.
