In this simple, loving story from the end of John's Gospel, the emphasis is on feeding. The disciples go to catch fish for their livelihood. Jesus once again helps them find the large catch. Jesus feeds the disciples (a wonderful fish breakfast on the beach!) and then, through Peter, commissions them to carry out his actions of love in the feeding of others. The story reminds us that we are called to feed people in the Word of the Gospel and also to feed people physically out of the love of God. This text should be used along with Matthew 25, as signs of the kingdom of God of those who meet the needs of the world out of the love of God which they know in Christ.
