Sickness, during the first months...

Sickness, during the first months of her life, left Helen Keller both blind and deaf. In later years, one of her friends pictured Keller's situation. She said, "Whether she's here or in New York or in India, she sits in a black, silent hole."
So it was, because the only physical sense she had was the sense of smell. But Helen Keller had a brilliant mind and a fighting spirit. She became world-famous as a speaker and a writer: a towering inspiration for all who struggle against handicaps.
