Several years ago in Texas, voters elected a dead man. Democratic state senator John Wilson, running for re-election, died of lung cancer 25 hours after the deadline to change the ballot, so in order to retain party control of the seat in a subsequent special election, Democratic officials felt they had no option but to support Wilson's posthumous candidacy.
As it turned out, Wilson beat his living opponent easily, receiving 66 percent of the vote.
