Several years ago the movie Amadeus featured a cradle-to-grave rendition of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's life and music. One of the most wrenching scenes of the production is the depiction of Mozart's funeral. He is buried in an unmarked pauper's grave on a rainy, lonely day. The scene itself is depicted against the background performance of one of Mozart's magnificent masses. In the dismal victory of death, the music pulsates with eternity and life. The listener is unavoidably reminded of Mozart's legacy to humanity.
