In the Gospels, Jesus talks more about the Kingdom of God than he does about anything else. Modern preaching does not emphasize this theme nearly so much as did the preaching of Jesus himself. Rudolf Bultman noted this paradox years ago in his famous dictum that, in Christian faith, "the Proclaimer becomes the Proclaimed." He meant that, while Jesus himself thought "the gospel" was a message about the kingdom of God (see Mark 1:14-15), his followers have decided that "the gospel" is a message about Jesus, especially about his death and resurrection (see 1 Corinthians 15:1-4).
