Second Sight
How many opportunities
remain forever unexplored
within the unseen spaces
of our lives,
unchallenged and unchanged
because we fail to look for light
in hidden places?
As children our
imaginations burn,
melting shadows
with a single glance --
and nothing seems impossible!
But somehow age ...
A certain blindness comes with age;
a darkness without dreams
that leaves behind unnoticed
unborn places.
And we are left
with what our blindness sees ...
For only in our final hour
does dark come clear
to free us from illusion. (B. Kathleen Fannin, In Search of the River, Lima, Ohio: Fairway Press, 1992, p. 49.) -- Fannin
