Scientists have long been fascinated by the factors which cause one person to be attracted
to another. Appearance is important and is determined largely by culture. In the Western
world, women go to excessive lengths to obtain the perfect figure (thin and well-
proportioned), while in other cultures, a heavy-set woman is considered most attractive.
The appearance of health is important. Long hair and fingernails give the sense of good
health. Is the body symmetrical? Good symmetry between the left and right side of the
body tends to be more attractive than a non-symmetrical body.
