Sam is just thirteen years...

Sam is just thirteen years old but has not had an easy time with frequent moves to new
communities. Sam has moved in and out of several school districts that meant having to
make new friends and start all over time and time again. When his mother landed a better
paying job and found a place to live, Sam hoped this would be his last move. He craved
stability, his last time to make new friends. Teens can be tough on each other. It's not
easy making new friends in a large school.
One of their new neighbors showed Sam his hobby -- collecting baseball cards. The man literally had thousands of cards. The rookie cards of players who later became famous or broke records were the most valuable, the neighbor told him.
After school and on weekends Sam and his neighbor would spend hours going through, sorting, and examining baseball cards. The neighbor, in some ways, became a father figure for Sam -- something that was missing in his life.
Jesus teaches us that families are important. We need to pay attention to children and youth in our community. Jesus models that for us as he blesses the children who are drawn to him.
