Rummage sales can be fun. My experience tells me most of the ones we had have been worthwhile. At our last sale, one of the ladies came up to me and said, "Look what I have just found!" Her whole tone and sound was similar to a little child finding a great treasure. As she enthusiastically talked, she showed me some volumes of Condensed Reader's Digest books. She continued, "Now I don't have to read the other book all the way through. I can read them in here and save hours of time."
Sometimes I hear pastors and Sunday school teachers trying to sell the idea of reading the Bible through from cover to cover. I actually know of very few people who have done so. Most, like me, do not read it for the purpose of getting through it. We read it so it gets through to us.
This passage is a Condensed Reader's Digest version of our coming Lord and Savior's purpose and mission in life. Only it doesn't save us hours -- it has saved us a lifetime!
