The Roman aristocrat Cornelia was the mother of two sons, Tiberius and Gaius, the pair of whom grew to become the famous Gracci Brothers, reformers of the Roman agricultural system. On one occasion a wealthy Roman lady visited Cornelia and proceeded to show off her jewelry to her hostess. She then challenged Cornelia to show off her own jewels. Cornelia gestured toward her sons, who had just entered the room, saying, "These are my jewels."
