Reverend John Cook was getting quite full of himself. The church had been struggling when he came and now it was really growing. The budget was up. Attendance was up. Feedback from almost everyone was very affirming. It had really peaked when the president of the congregation had come to him and said that a group of leaders had gotten together and voted to give him a raise before the budget process. If his ego had been getting big up to that point, that put him over the top. That night he went to bed feeling really good and fell quickly into a deep sleep.
