Reverend F. B. Meyer relates a little-known story that advances the theme of Christian aid to one another. When David Livingstone was to leave for Africa, there was an elderly Scotch woman named Mrs. MacRobert who presented him with some thirty pounds and this piece of advice: "When you get to Africa I want you to spare yourself exposure and needless toil by employing a qualified body-servant who will go with you and share your sacrifices and exposures.
