Ray was a college classmate...
Ray was a college classmate of mine. He had been blind since the age of three, the result of a freak accident. It was fascinating how quickly Ray could learn. He had an acute sense of hearing and a quick memory. He knew his way around campus better than just about anyone else. He sang in the school choir, and he was one of the first to know all the words to the songs. Ray could always be heard in the back of the classroom taking lecture notes on his portable braille typewriter. He accomplished his reading assignments by asking classmates to read aloud to him.
