A question often asked in the ranks of professional caregivers -- medical doctors, nurses and technicians, clergy, therapists, and teachers -- is: "Who helps the helper when the helper needs help?" This question addresses the real issues, often denied, that caregivers encounter in their personal lives, but may find difficult to acknowledge because they feel they should be able to handle issues better than their clients, due to their specialized education or training.
