Predictions for the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, placed Britain's reigning champion, Linford Christie, as a favorite in the 100-meter dash. But Christie faulted on two starts and was disqualified from the event. His tantrum and his refusal to leave the race made news worldwide. But his failure to be ready at the precise millisecond cost him a chance for a medal. In today's Gospel, the Lord warns of the necessity to be ready when he comes at the end of this age to receive us into his kingdom. Since our Lord teaches us that he will come again when people least expect him, it is crucial that we remain steadfast in the faith at all times.
