On the popular television program, "Star Trek the Next Generation," there is a character named, simply, "Data." Data is an android, a machine. He is programmed to act like his human and not so human crew members. He is smarter than most. He is, after all, an expensive computer that looks and talks like a human. He can sustain much more damage than a human, he can even function without air. But, there is a little switch in his back, that if engaged, shuts off. Once off, there is nothing that he can do to turn himself back on.
