Political and military treachery and...

Political and military treachery and murder were common in the realm of King David and have continued in probably every government since. Certainly in our own United States there have been many instances where the security and/or the reputation of our country has been jeopardized by the treacherous actions of political or military leaders.
The death of Absalom was the indirect result of David's lust and his murder of Bathsheba's husband; just as all evil, whether corporate or individual, is the result of personal sin. As we have seen in recent years, when a religious leader sins, the entire church may suffer; and when a political or military leader errs, the entire nation -- or even the world -- may be victims of the immoral fallout.
Yet, we must realize that the sins of leaders are magnified only by the sins of the followers. "If you demand wise and honest government in your city, your state and your country, you must recognize that wise and honest government is the product of wise and honest citizens, and nothing else" (Herbert V. Proch now).
