The plan was simple. Everyone in the family would gather in the church parking lot down the street from their parents' home. They would then form a parade of sorts and march down to the house in which they had all grown up and present their mother with a choir-like rendition of "Happy Birthday" as they mounted the porch. They wanted her 85th birthday to be a memorable one not only for their parents, but for the neighborhood as well. Mrs. Krouse, the neighbor lady in the house next door to the church, would make sure their parents stayed home for the surprise.
