The Pharisees whom Jesus condemned...
Illustration
The Pharisees whom Jesus condemned were notorious for their judgmental behavior. Their spirit has not disappeared. The leading families of Boston called proudly by their own class but derisively by others the "Brahmins," were pharisaical in their snobbery. At least one Bostonian returned the favor. Poet, Amy Lowell, could not abide the Cabot family, one of the elite names among the Brahmin class. She once embarked on an ocean liner bound for Europe, only to scan the passenger list and promptly disembark.
