Give up sin and put on your track shoes, the Scripture says. Get up off the premises, claim the promises, and get the show on the road.
But that's easy for you to say, God. After all, you have a little more going for you than we do. How do you expect us to run the race, finish the course and do any good on the way?
Because, God answers, you are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses. You can do it because they have. You can lead others to Jesus because others have led you.
What witnesses are you thinking of? I'm thinking of Miss McCleary who worked with our church youth group when nobody else would. She loved us, got on us when needed, but convinced us we were very special in God's vision. And that God had a vision for each of us.
I'm thinking of Charlie Carlton who loved me when he couldn't understand me and did it because Jesus had done the same for him; of Cecil Murphy who convinced me I could be a Christian and still have fun; and a host of others in the great cloud of witnesses with which God has surrounded me.
And I'm thinking of Jesus on Palm Sunday, showing me the courage of his convictions, the peace of God's presence, the gumption to see it through.
Lord Jesus, thank you for walking the walk and empowering me to do the same.
