Peter, the Jew, is searching for some analogy to describe what the resurrection and baptism means to the church. He reaches out to this rather strange analogy with Noah, who survived the flood, with his wife, three sons and three daughters-in-law. And he sees in the number eight the perfect number according to ancient belief, as the perfect witness of Jesus.
Not that baptism washes clean the body. But like the flood, there lies behind baptism the significance of being perfected with Jesus.
