Paul Revere, an American patriot...
Illustration
Paul Revere, an American patriot of the Revolutionary era, was probably Amer-ica's finest silversmith. He engraved the copper plates that were used to produce the first paper money for the Colonies. He cast cannon and manufactured gunpowder to supply the militia during the Revolutionary War. But he was also a superb horseman. He was called upon in 1774 to ride from Boston to New York and Philadelphia to gain support for the Sons of Liberty, a revolutionary group of which he was a member. He rode for 11 days, averaging 63 miles a day.
