Paul applies the name of mediator to Jesus' role. According to modern definitions, a
mediator is a neutral party who facilitates negotiations between two or more disputants,
assists the disputants to arrive at a mutually acceptable agreement, controls the process to
ensure that negotiations take place in a balanced and fair manner, and ensures that each
party is given equal opportunity to speak and respond to the other. Mediators do not act
