A pastor walked through a puddle, waited for her shoes to dry, and then scraped the dirt into a prescription bottle. It amounted to little more than a tablespoonful. If it had been actual dust, it would have been much less.
She used this as "show and tell" in her first sermon to her new congregation!
Certainly this trifling amount of dirt was a small matter between pastor and people. How appropriate would it be for either party to let such an insignificant item determine their relationship?
"No longer do I preach to prospective Christians as in that day. You may well be farther along in your journey than I. The Kingdom of God has come by here often. I cannot assume I am the first prophet to proclaim it."
The sermon concluded with a call to get into growth together and remain in growth together. Then as a fellowship of saints they would proclaim the Kingdom to those who had not heard it.
