A pastor tells of going to the local mall to replace a watchband. As the young woman was changing the band, she mentioned that she thought she knew the pastor. Specifically, she said she recognized his voice. She then asked if he "did funerals." He told her that he was a pastor and probably she recognized him from a funeral. The young woman remembered the pastor from her grandfather's funeral several years before.
The pastor also remembered the funeral. The family was not involved with any church. He invited them to church and they said they would try to come but never did. He remembered meeting with the family members and how difficult it was for them to part with their husband, father, and grandfather. The funeral was just as challenging.
The pastor viewed the situation as an opportunity to speak about matters of faith and what Christ means to us on a personal level -- right there in the mall, of all places.
