The Holy Spirit in the Bible is compared to fire which is often uncontrollable.
I am a real fan of Lorenzo de' Medici. In the Renaissance, de' Medici was a great artist and showman. He put on a show with such dramatic flair that Florence, Italy, will never be the same again. Most of the dramas in the Renaissance period were performed in churches. Lorenzo was doing this magnificent drama on Pentecost, and he had a way of making everything dramatic and realistic. So when it came time to describe the tongues of fire coming down from heaven, de' Medici had real fire coming down. The problem was that it caught the trappings and curtains on fire and burned the church down. That was pretty realistic, wasn't it? Well, that's what the Bible is saying that the Holy Spirit is like -- fire that will consume, that will burn. But you can'tcontrol it.
