Our confirmation class was discussing how Jesus Christ was at work in us and through us by the power of the Holy Spirit. I began the lesson by telling the class about Nancy.
Nancy was a senior citizen whose husband had just died. In order to cope with her husband's death, Nancy kept herself very busy and was rarely at home. Before her husband's death, I had been able to visit Nancy whenever I felt as if she needed a visit. However, experience had taught me that I now needed to make an appointment in order to see her. Then one afternoon as I was out visiting, I had an urge to stop in and see Nancy. I told myself that I had just visited her last week, but my urge to visit her didn't stop. Then I tried telling myself that Nancy wouldn't be home even if I did go to her house. But still my urge to visit didn't go away. Finally I just decided that I was being silly and I ignored my urge to visit her.
Later on that evening I learned that Nancy had fallen in her garage and broken her left ankle. As I concluded telling the class about Nancy, I asked them this question: Was my urge to visit Nancy a direction of our Lord Jesus, or was it simply a coincidence?
