One veritable litany that echoes...
Illustration
One veritable litany that echoes over and over in this section of the gospel is the "last shall be first and the first shall be last." In Flannery O'Connor's short story Revelation, the central character, Mrs. Turpin, visits a doctor's office. As she sits and awaits her turn, the aristocratic southerner is offended by having to wait for blacks, the mentally handicapped, and "po' white trash." Following her visit, she returns to her home only to be overwhelmed by a vision.
