One Sunday morning an eccentric...

One Sunday morning an eccentric looking man came to church. He dressed in out-of-style clothes and had disheveled hair. His name was John and he seemed friendly enough. He explained that he had just moved into the area, had been a musician at his previous congregation, and wondered if he could use his music to help here (he quietly said it seemed like the church could use "a little pick-me-up"). Could he do a song next Sunday?
The pastor didn't quite know what to say. She didn't even know this man and he didn't look like someone she would naturally assume would come up with much. But she didn't want to say no and granted her permission. A bit nervous, she called him on Wednesday to see what song he was going to do so she could list it in the bulletin.
"I think we'll do 'Amazing Grace,' " he told her.
When John got to church to set up his amplifier he had two friends with him who played bass and percussion. "Oh, no!" went through the pastor's mind. "All the old members are going to be furious!" But worship was about to begin. The pastor advised John, "Don't be too loud!"
During the offering John and his two friends came to the front to sing their song. It was the most incredible rendition of "Amazing Grace" that anyone at church had ever heard. Somehow John and his friends got more than just words and notes out and the song worked its magic. What started out looking like it would amount to nothing had produced a miracle.
