One of the most significant phrases of the Christian faith is the blood of the Lamb. It signifies the redemptive center of belief. Many hymns from the Christian tradition speak of the sinner being washed in the blood of the lamb. This set of verses altogether is featured in many traditions as the collect for All Saints' Day on November 1st.
Peter DeVries wrote a book, The Blood of the Lamb, about a parent who lost a child, after a long struggle, to death.
As the father walks home with his groceries, he stops near a church. Numbed by grief he raises his eyes to a statue of Jesus outside the building. In a fury at God over his loss, he takes a pie from the sack and hurls it at the face of the Lord. And then in the midst of his tears of pain and anger and loss, he seems to see the hand of Christ reach up, wipe away the remnants of the pie and gaze at him with unutterable love. It is then that the blood of the Lamb spills over his broken heart.
