One of the greatest presidential inaugural speeches in American history was delivered by John Fitzgerald Kennedy on January 20, 1961. Those of us old enough to remember Kennedy's warm words on that cold January day were inspired by them to serve our country. After almost four decades these words still live: "In the long history of the world, only a few generations have been granted the role of defending freedom in its hour of maximum danger. The energy, the faith, and the devotion which we bring to this endeavor will light our country ... And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you -- ask what you can do for your country." In 1 Timothy the writer urges Christians to support those in positions of authority in governing the nation. As Christians we are to practice good citizenship, demanding our leaders serve all the people with justice.
