One of the charming Christmas...

One of the charming Christmas customs, observed in Sweden, is connected with the day of St. Lucia in early December. Commemorating a medieval Christian heroine, teen-aged girls in Sweden wear the traditional St. Lucia crown. The feature of the rather unwieldy crown is a circle of lighted candles.
Such a crown is a fitting symbol during this Epiphany season as well. The words of Isaiah, in this reading, come to life, "... her victory shines like a torch in the night ..." (Verse 1); "... You will be like a beautiful crown for the Lord ..." (Verse 3)
