One of the characteristics of the Marcan Gospel is the Messianic secret. That is, those secrets of the kingdom that, according to Mark, were told only to the disciples. Mark did not tell what Jesus told them in secret. He presented Christ as the man of action, majoring in the deeds of Christ rather than the words of Christ.
Action is before us and around us all the time. Most of the time we are left to draw our own conclusions about what we see. Needless to say, there is a lot of misunderstanding about what particular events mean. Consequently, rumor and misinformation is rampant among us.
Jesus had a reason for not going into details and explanations to the crowd. They were a mixed multitude. Most of them curiosity seekers, troublemakers, rabble--rousers, and doubters. These he gave nuggets of truth -- that which they could discuss among themselves. His disciples, however, were the called; he enabled them to "equip the saints."
God still calls men and women and entrusts them with the secrets and power of the kingdom, which we are to share with all who will hear and believe. The ironic thing is that there is no secret what God has, can, or will do. It is a secret, however, to anyone whose heart is hardened against him.
