The Old Testament simply teaches that God is for us. The New Testament gospels teach he is also with us in Christ, God in the flesh, our Emmanuel. But Acts teaches God is more than for us and with us. He is in us by the Holy Spirit.
Here in Jeremiah God is foreshadowing this new arrangement. It will not be like "the old covenant," he says. "In the new I will redeem their sins" and "put my law within them."
Even here, so long ago, one may see God's divine redeeming strategy worked out long before we ever celebrated Lent, Easter, and Pentecost!
