Oh, yes, it would have been a lot easier, not to mention faster, if she had just gone to the remnant table at the fabric store. But the meaning would not have been there. In some ways the quilt might have been more beautiful, more aesthetically pleasing as her artsy friends would say, if she had bought new material and color-coordinated the whole thing. But this quilt held a different kind of beauty; It held memories. With each scrap she pieced into her pattern, she thought of the article of clothing it had come from. The blue plaid was from the shirt she had made for her grandson.
