Often we wander away from close fellowship with Christ. That's one reason he gave us Holy Communion ... to remind us of all he has done for us ... to help us remember all the pain he has endured for our forgiveness.
A wife who had been unfaithful to her husband decided to get a divorce, so she left him. A few weeks later she mailed him a letter requesting that all her things be sent to her new apartment.
He still loved his unfaithful wife and was very sad as he gathered her things together and packed them in a trunk. Before closing the lid, he placed a few keepsakes on top: her diamond ring that she had thrown into the trash, an album of their wedding pictures, and a small plastic box containing the little shoes of their baby that had died.
When the wife opened the trunk and saw those things on top, her heart was broken. The memory of all the love and joy she once had with her husband came flooding back into her mind. Shedding bitter tears of repentance, she acknowledged her unfaithfulness and was reconciled to her husband.
Remembering led her to repentance and ultimately to reconciliation. That, in part, is why Jesus said about holy communion, "Do this in Remembrance of me."
