In October, 1962, the world was uneasy as the Soviet Union planned to place missiles in Cuba and Kennedy blockaded Cuba. Fortunately, the Communists backed down and withdrew their efforts.
This provides a background for a book published in 1963 about a man engaged i n counter-espionage against Communists in Africa. The man was captured by the Communists and was about to commit suicide. Suddenly an African appeared and led him to safety. Then the African returned to his mysterious place.
A reviewer in severely criticizing the plot wrote, "Not the foggiest clue is ever given as to who, why, or what of this deliverer." Although we would like to know more about Jesus, we can be thankful for the words of our text -- and for the gospels. Unlike the severely criticized book plot, we know of our Deliverer the who, the why, and the what.
