A number of prominent people...

A number of prominent people attended a party many years ago in London. Among those present was a well-known minister of the city, Caesar Milan. The program of the evening included some musical numbers on the piano and some songs presented by Charlotte Elliot. After she had presented some lovely selections, Mr. Milan congratulated her. He also told her how great the cause of Christ would be benefited if she dedicated her talents to him. He continued by saying, "You know, young lady, you are as much a sinner in the sight of God as anyone else, but I am glad to tell you that Jesus Christ can cleanse you from all sin." She soon let him know this was none of his business and he apologized.
After the party ended, the young woman went home and to bed. However, she tossed and turned and could not sleep. She kept seeing the face of the preacher in front of her and kept hearing him say, "Jesus Christ can cleanse you from all sin." She finally got up at 2 a.m. and decided to fight the Lord no longer. It was then that she took pencil and paper, and with tears in her eyes, wrote down her surrender that included these words:
Just as I am, though tossed about
With many a conflict, many a doubt,
Fightings and fears within, without,
O Lamb of God, I come.
Charlotte Elliot decided that night to surrender her life to Christ, knowing that he would cleanse her of her sins and grant her the gift of eternal life.
