I can still remember studying Mary Shelley's Frankenstein in my first-year English class in college, the tale of an ambitious scientist who went too far and decided to play God, creating a living human being out of a collection of body parts taken from various dead bodies. However, like all human attempts to play God, the result of his actions was a hideous looking creature who he despised as soon as he created him.
We aren't all that unlike Frankenstein's creature. We were dead in our trespasses and sins. Spiritually speaking, we were lifeless. Thankfully, that's where the comparison ends. God's Spirit has given us new life, raising us to new life in Christ.
