Question: What state records the greatest number of earthquakes along with volcanic eruptions? Most of us probably would say California or Hawaii, but actually it's Alaska.
Alaska experiences the most earthquakes in the United States. In fact, in 1964 one of the largest quakes was reported with a magnitude of 9.2. There are forty active volcanoes in Alaska, with Redoubt being #9 of America's 10 most dangerous. Redoubt looks so peaceful as you gaze upon it from afar. No lava or smoke, just white snow and blue sky. When it last erupted in 2009, airplanes were banned from flying in or out of the state. Animals were killed by falling trees, strong currents swept fish ashore, and waters overflowed, causing evacuation of homes and cabins in the adjacent region. The natives of this 49th U.S. state are alert when they hear of upheaval to come. They prepare by fortifying their docks, home and cabin foundations, stocking up on supplies and planning an escape route if needed. They watch for the signs. Do we?
