Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) in July 2012 cast her 5,000th consecutive vote in the Senate. Doing so has required a great deal of precaution and sacrifice. One example being, she arrives in Washington DC on Sunday, instead of Monday like the other senators. This way, the weather in Maine cannot delay her trip for a Monday vote.
Reflecting on her 5,000 consecutive votes, Collins said, "But I'm proud of the fact that I've gone 15 and a half years without missing one, and I believe it reflects the seriousness with which I take this job and the fact that I consider it an honor to represent the people of Maine. I know that they're very diligent about showing up for work and that the people of my state have a great work ethic and I've tried to mirror that."
Application: Ruth had a strong work ethic and a strong moral character.
