A New Answer
By what unique name do you call me, Lord?
And what do you call me to do?
How do you call me to serve you, God?
What waters would you have me pass through?
I listen in the stillness of night for your voice,
and hear only silence, unending.
I listen in the brightness of day for your words
and wonder what I'm not comprehending.
What I think I hear seems impossible to me
so I answer resoundingly, "Lord, NO!"
Yet you call me again; you call me by name,
and no matter what, you won't let me go.
How long does the pain of self-doubt continue?
How long the yearning emptiness?
How long before the course of my life is turned
and I respond with a resounding, "YES!"
