My parents would often trust the house to my three younger sisters and me when they went out. My sisters and I used to ask, "What time will you get home?" We thought the question innocent enough not to arouse any suspicion. After all, it was a very simple question. But my parents would never tell us.
Occasionally, all right fairly regularly, my sisters and I would get into mischief: pillow fights, getting into the cookies. But we always had to keep an eye on the street to see when my parents would be arriving home. One night during a particularly exciting pillow fight, the pillow broke. Thousands of feathers fluttered to the bedroom floor. Immediately we set about trying to get every feather picked up. Have you ever tried to rush sweeping feathers? It can't be done. Wouldn't you know it, my parents arrived while we were still trying to clean up. Though my parents saw humor in our circumstance, they did admonish us to remember the next time. Keep out of trouble because we would never know when they would arrive home.
