In the movie, Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves, Marian and Robin have just enjoyed a festive time together in the outlaw's camp in Sherwood Forest. They are discussing the fact that Robin had been born into nobility, while the people in his band are mostly common people from small villages and farms. While Marian seems to be focusing on the differences between Robin and his followers, Robin shares his pride in the courage and nobility of this group as they prepare to do battle with the evil forces of Nottingham's Sheriff. At one point he says to Marian, "You know, you don't have to be born into nobility to be noble." Marian, having known Robin in his capricious, rebellious days of youth, is surprised to hear such a profound and wise saying come from him, and she tells him so. His response: "I didn't say it. My father did."
