The most eloquent preacher in...

The most eloquent preacher in the ancient church was John Chrysostom (c345-407) so named "the golden mouth." He was baptized in his 20s, entered a monastic order and later was ordained. Eventually, against his own wishes he became bishop in Constantinople. He was such a popular preacher that he had to beg his people not to applaud him during his sermons.
