The moon has always been...

The moon has always been a mysterious presence in the heavens, and has inspired many myths. Who, as a child, hasn't searched the face of the moon trying to catch a glimpse of the "man" who lives there? And wasn't it delicious fun to imagine the moon was made of green cheese? The mystery of the moon has even inspired new words, like lunacy.
Try these myths on for size: It was once believed that if you slept in the light of the moon, you would go crazy. And the danger was even greater for women: Sleeping in the light of the full moon would make a woman pregnant! Pointing at the moon would bring bad luck. Chickens lay more eggs during the moon's last quarter. And the one most of us are familiar with: On nights of the full moon, emergency rooms are fuller, more babies are born, and children are more active.
Maybe so. But a damper was put on all of this when on July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong put foot on the moon. No man in the moon was seen. A dusty surface greeted him, not cheese. Some of the mystery of the moon was lost forever when Armstrong's feet touched down -- but not all.
Similarly, many of the mysteries of God were revealed in Jesus Christ. But not all.
