Mommy, mommy! Meg ran into...

"Mommy, mommy!" Meg ran into the room as little David screamed again. "Mommy, mommy!" "Shh, Mommy is right here. Don't worry. I'll stay with you." Meg stroked her five-year-old's soft hair. She rocked him and hummed a familiar hymn. David relaxed and he was soon asleep. Meg inched away from him and took a few steps away from the bed. David sat straight up in his bed. "Mommy, don't leave me." "Shh, I'll stay for a minute. You go back to sleep and I'll sit right here on your bed. Go ahead, close your eyes. I'll be right here." David closed his eyes and soon his breathing was deep and even. Meg got up very slowly, gently rubbing David's back as she quietly backed away. Meg smiled as she walked down the hall. David knew she was close by, but he needed to hear her and feel her touch on his back to believe it. He had faith that she was there -- she just had to remind him.
