The modern welfare attitude that has emerged in many countries today would not have developed under Paul's watch. There would be no sense of entitlement driving people to get as much as they could for as little as they would offer. Paul's no-nonsense approach is echoed in the words of Martin Luther, who wrote, "I would have nothing whatever if I did not plow and sow. [God] does not want me to sit at home, to loaf, to commit matters to God, and to wait 'til a fried chicken flies into my mouth. That would be tempting God."
