A minister in Cadiz, Ohio, put an ad in the Sunday paper stating, "Godloving folks badly needed to help clean and repair our church basement." On the following Sunday, in the same space, this ad appeared: "Last week I advertised for God-loving folks to help clean and repair our church basement. Since no one responded, I'm now asking sinners to come and help do the job."
No one is righteous of themselves! No one is good enough to ever be anything except a sinner. But Habakkuk gives us a new insight into the term "righteous." It simply means one who lives by faith. One who lives by faith in Christ Jesus is righteous already because his blood has washed away all sin.
Someone once said, "No man has ever tested the resources of God until he tries the human impossible." If you want to be righteous, yes even you, then pray that God do the impossible in your life. Namely, pray that you become righteous through Jesus. There is no other way.
